This is a lesson I used based on observing fruits, especially lemons with the children. Links to patterns in nature, fruits, plants, colour and pattern. Sheet 1 gives 8 examples of how 1 ‘slice of fruit’ can be coloured in different ways. Sheet 2 is black and white showing the 8 ‘slices’. Sheet 3 shows 2 large ‘slices’. This activity can be linked to seasons, with children using e.g.Autumn colours or cold colours for winter.

2 pages of colour cards showing 36 cards altogether. Each card shows a pair / 2 objects. Duplicate the cards, cut out and laminate for matching games for EYFS and KS1. Talk about same and different as well as noting pairs that are one object such as a pair of scissors.

3 sets of colour flashcards - small, medium and large. Each pair of flashcards show snowmens’ faces with different coloured hats. There are 10 colours and 2 of each colour. Print, cut, laminate and use for matching and sorting games.

10 flashcards of each of the colours: yellow, blue, red and green. Cards show pictures of objects, colour splats and colour words. Children can match the colours, or duplicate and they can also match picture to picture. Children can make sets of each colour.

6 sets of clothing in 6 different colours. Each page has 6 cards to cut out - 1 colour per page. Children can make sets in different ways e.g. all the blue or brown or all the mittens, socks, hats etc. Some of the colours may be slightly different shades and children find the best match.

10 colour worksheets for children at Christmas learning their numbers to 10. Print out or show on your screen. An idea is to give children a mini white board and as they look at each picture they either write the numbers or sentences e.g. I see 3 presents.

These worksheets that can be used alone or alongside colour / shape sorting practical activities. There are 3 worksheets where children can colour in the black and white buttons to make them the same as the colour buttons shown. They can go on to count how many buttons of each colour, size or / and pattern. There are 2 worksheets where all the buttons are black and white and children can colour these by sorting or using their own choices of colour. A 10 page PPT for young children learning to count to 6 and beginning to add objects to 6. The answers appear on the click of a button on your PPT. A nice little starter to your maths lessons or filler when the children finish early.

An observation game where children think, make choices and talk about their decisions. 5 colour pages each showing 5 rows of pictures. Children decide which one of the pictures on each row is the odd one out. e.g. 3 lion pictures and 1 tiger or more challenging such as 4 beds, 1 of which is a single bed. Children can verbalise why they have decided a picture is the odd one out. Use as boards or cut the pictures out and they can also be used for sorting games e.g. all the clothing, all the transport etc.

4 colour sheets showing 5 rows of clothing or accessories. Each row has 7 items e.g. 7 pairs of socks or 7 dresses. The idea is that the child finds which 2 are the same on each row. They can talk about similarities and differences or who wears which clothing and in what seasons. Use as 4 boards which you could laminate. Or, cut out individual cards which can then be sorted and the matching pairs of items located. Enlarge or keep as handy small picture cards.

20 colour cards showing oval shapes with colour borders and matching colour pictures in the centre. Duplicate, cut out and laminate for matching games and speaking and listening opportunities. There is a blank template included which is black and white. Links to your topic on Colour.

15 cards showing different vehicles in colour and in sets of 4. There are 2 sheets with different colour backgrounds. There are subtle differences for them to look out for. Children cut out and match the cards. Extend with activities where children can make sets of 4 with objects or toy vehicles.

3 worksheets where there are 4 lots of cards to cut and sequence on each page. Children can either cut and sequence or write numbers 1 to 4 to indicate which order the pictures should be in. 10 worksheets with an Easter theme. Each sheet shows a number from 1 to 10 with chicks inside. Children count the chicks, overwrite the numbers and words and colour the pictures. Each page has a Spring themed border. When completed, these sheets make lovely number posters for a display or the number corner.

5 sets of matching Easter bonnet cards. Each page shows 16 cards with 8 matching pairs of bonnets. Cut out the cards and laminate for matching and sorting games with an Easter theme.

A collection of cards showing cyclists with subtle differences for children to discuss, observe, sort and match. There are 3 colour sets duplicated on each page. Copy, cut and laminate the cards to play Go Fish where children traditionally have 5 cards each and select cards from a pile in turn. The aim is to make pairs. This resource links nicely to Transport topics, keeping fit, matching, sorting and colour. International Bicycle Day this year is on the 19th April.
